I’m Erin—a writer and designer living in central New Hampshire. When not working, I can often be found chasing after my two children, browsing bookstores, and obsessing over good typography.
Let me tell you a bit more about myself and the type of work I do…
I’ve spent the past decade living and breathing words. I am the critically acclaimed and Edgar-Award nominated author of nine novels for children and teens, published by imprints of HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
I’m also a writing instructor, teaching online craft workshops to intermediate and advanced writers. My author newsletter pulls the curtain back on the publishing industry, sharing the ins and outs of the career with aspiring authors and providing encouragement and tips to a growing community of writers.
My background is in design. I have a BFA in New Media Design and Imaging from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Before becoming a published author, I worked as a designer and art director for several design agencies, where I was involved in all aspects of the design process, from concepting and ideation, through wireframing and final design. I’ve had the privilege of designing mobile and web experiences for brands such as Kashi, Royal Caribbean, ESPN, Nickelodeon, and more.
As an author, I keep a foot in the design world, too. I maintain my personal author website and design nearly all my promotional materials (eg: bookmarks, postcards, social media graphics, etc). I also take on select freelance projects, creating design solutions for fellow authors and bookish companies.
Above all, I think of myself as a creator—someone who crafts unique, purposeful, and engaging experiences across a variety of mediums.
Though writing and designing may not appear to have much in common on the surface, at their cores, both are forms of storytelling. One tells a story with words, the other with visuals. I’ve spent years playing in both sandboxes and couldn’t imagine a more rewarding job.
Whether you need a fresh bit of copywriting or an eye-catching design, I can deliver.
